Uckfield Town Council is delighted to announce that it will host a Bulb Planting Day on Saturday 22nd February at Harlands Pond.
As part of the Town Council’s environmental and community commitments, the project to enhance Uckfield’s green spaces even further begins in 2025 with the Bulb Planting Day.
Residents of the immediate area around Harlands Pond – the Mallard Drive estate and Ridgewood area – as well as residents of other parts of the town, are encouraged to come along and take part.
Ideal for young families, dog walkers and those wishing to see the space take on a whole new life in the summer months, this project will require plenty of community involvement but offers huge benefits for all.
On Saturday 22nd February, representatives of the Town Council – led by Town Mayor, Cllr. Karen Bedwell, and Countryside Ranger, Tom Woollard – will lead the activity at Harlands Pond.
Residents are encouraged to attend from 10:00am, when instructions will be delivered by Town Council staff on how to safely plant bulbs while considering the existing nature on the site.
Residents can bring their own bulbs, but these are asked to be summer bulbs in particular. If residents do not already have bulbs, Town Council employees can supply some on the day, as they have around 200 available.
Suitable summer bulbs include:
No prior notice is required to attend, but if residents wish to get in touch to ask for any details, they are encouraged to contact [email protected] or call 01825 762774.
Residents can plant as many bulbs as they wish, but the focus will be on one per person at first, so all attendees can make a difference in transforming the site.
All sorts of summer bulbs are welcome, whether grown on allotments or at home, bought from garden centres, or collected from Town Council employees on the day of the event. If residents wish to buy bulbs, recommended local stores include Staverton Nursery, Goldcliff, Blackbrooks Garden Centre and Babylon Eco Centre.
