The Uckfield Ageing Well Forum is being formed in 2024 as an updated and expanded rebrand of the Uckfield Dementia Forum.
The Ageing Well Forum sits under the Wealden Dementia Action Alliance and works alongside the local community to help Uckfield enhance its credentials as a town that works for residents of all ages and needs.
A rebrand was agreed upon in 2024 to tackle all matters that come within older age, and to prompt broader thinking from Uckfield Town Council and our partners over how we can do more in the town to support diverse needs.
We are currently compiling lists of partners who want to join us in this journey, and will expand our signposting to a range of useful services within the town and surrounding area. Also, we will draw up dates for regular Forum meetings and action points in the near future.
Over the last few years, the Forum has been made up of several key businesses and community groups, including:
The Ageing Well Forum aims to continue where the Dementia Forum left off, consulting with businesses in the town to promote awareness of issues in later life and to consider and introduce ways through which it can support people living with specific needs when they visit the town.
The Forum aims to ensure Uckfield is a friendly and socially conscious town and to make it a pleasant, understanding, and less confusing place for those moving into later life.
We recommend several existing resources for awareness of ageing well, including the Centre for Ageing Well: https://ageing-better.org.uk/
Much of our work as an Ageing Well Forum will be guided by principles laid out in the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) ‘Eight Domains’ of areas of the built and social environment which, when acted upon, can help to address barriers to ageing well. A useful resource for explaining the domains is here: https://ageing-better.org.uk/age-friendly-communities/eight-domains
